4 team building events worth conferencing for
It’s easy to add a team building event to your conference just to tick a box. They are great for driving enthusiasm, fostering social interaction between colleagues and giving everyone a break after 3 days in a conference room watching endless presentations (just kidding – we know you’re better than that). But how much thought goes in to picking an activity?
Team building is an integral part of any conference. It gives your delegates a chance to try something new, to highlight their skills in a non-work environment, build relationships with colleagues and enhance performance when back in the office. The best team building activities, the ones that get your delegates still talking about and excited about weeks later are the ones that try to be a little different.
And because we know everyone loves a good list, here are the top 4 team building events we’ve hosted at our hotels with Pinnacle Team Events.

1. Novotel Sydney Olympic Park – Ultimate Decathlon
An ultimate decathlon for 600 people hosted for a financial services company. Pinnacle worked with the client to create a list of 10 activities that delegates could choose from. Taking place onsite at Sydney Olympic Park, and catering for a large range of abilities and interests, the activities included:
- Cycling tour of Olympic Park
- Tennis tournament
- Circus and trapeze Class
- Swimming coaching and laps
- Cross fit
- Hip Hop dance class
- Walking tour of the Olympic Sites
- High ropes course
3. Q Station Sydney Harbour National Park Manly – Coastal Collaboration
This group from the Sydney CBD office were looking for a day of bonding rather than anything too structured. The group caught the ferry to Q-Station’s own ferry terminal at Quarantine Beach. The group enjoyed a morning of sports including kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, laser clay shooting, beach volleyball and beach cricket. The competition continued over lunch as teams competed in the My Pizza Rules challenge overlooking the beautiful middle harbour. An afternoon of sailing capped off a great day – with all of this available just a 20 minute ferry ride from Sydney CBD.
4. Novotel Barossa Valley – Grape to Glass
From Grape to Glass is a popular event for those hotels in our wine regions where teams compete to blend their own wine that is judged on; the blend, the label and the sales pitch. The winners see their wine brought to life as all delegates go home from the conference with a bottle of the winning teams wine as a memento of the conference.
With more than 400 hotels and resorts across Australia New Zealand and Asia Pacific, we have a large range of destinations to choose from and our partners at Pinnacle Team Events have certainly made use of some of our more unique destinations to provide team building events that are aligned with the conference theme and location.
